Film Composer Statement

At the core of Bret's film scoring work is always an effort to craft bespoke music-to-picture that feels analog and handmade - and finds itself consistent with the texture and theme of the project. With a rich background as an upright bassist in jazz and orchestral music, and over two decades of professional performance experience, Bret steps out as a highly individualistic composer. “I am a multi-instrumentalist (double bass, piano, guitar, mandolin, marimba, vibraphone) and my collection of rare instruments, vintage keyboards and esoteric effects frequently make for unique starting points or add-ons to more familiar film score sounds. When I become involved in composing for a project, it is always my goal to create an end result that is honest, well crafted, and emotionally resonant.”
